Bumthang Brewery

Bumthang Brewery

The brewery stands overlooking the beautiful Bumthang valley near Batbalathang domestic airport. The brewery is one of the oldest and also the only one brewery in Bumthang valley. A Swiss gentleman called Fritz Maurer moved to Bumthang sometime in the 1960s and started the brewery and later also a Swiss cheese manufacturing plant. The brewery runs really old School style by manufacturing only a small batch of beer at a time. The much loved and unfiltered Red Panda Beer is named after an endangered species of animal known as the Red Panda. It comes in a 650ml bottle and without any preservatives.

An entry cost of just US $5 includes a tour around the brewery and also a free bottle of the beer. Enjoying the beer along with the cheese and witnessing the amazing process of brewing the beer is an exciting thing to do while in Bumthang apart from visiting major attractions like the Dzongs and centuries-old Lhakhangs.
